I at no time felt obligated to present only positive comments.

There are stories of celebrities and spoof subjects galore. The wealth of pictures include black and white photos but glossy 4-color images predominate. Playbill Books, a division of the iconic year-old company that designs the programs for every show on Broadway, has expanded this idea into an annual project that is becoming a Broadway institution: The Playbill Broadway Yearbook. Playbill, the venerable publication that has been an essential aid to the theatergoing experience for the past years, placing a free program in customers' hands at legit performances, just published the first "Playbill Broadway Yearbook," a handsome, page coffee-table-size book that recounts in detail every Broadway production playing during the season. Another "T.

Edited by Robert Viagas for Playbill Books, it comes complete with cast and crew listings, photographs of all cast members and, smartly, both the Playbill cover and Playbill's inside credit page -- the latter a permanent reminder of who received star billing and in what order. For each production in the yearbook, there is a full cast, production team and The Playbill Broadway Yearbook book list, production photos, headshots, informal group shots of cast, crew, backstage departments and even front-of-house teams and stage door keepers, lists of awards, programme notes and a "scrapbook", which is a series of anecdotes and items of backstage gossip from one or more of the cast and crew. Thanks to co-author, the theater journalist Michael Portantiere, the information is well organized. This series is one that I go back to time and time again. Those 81 shows are described in great detail in the ninth edition of this handsome book, ranging from long-running shows such as Wicked, The Lion King, Chicago and Jersey Boys to brand new shows and short runs of performances by people ranging from original Jersey boy Frankie Valli to boxer Mike Tyson.
